Bora-Bora: Designing a Gift Box That Feels Like a Holiday
New from LOKKI: Bora-Bora, a limited-edition gift box that turns turquoise water, warm sunlight and palm shade into something you can actually hold. A look at how the packaging came together.

Some projects start with a brief. Bora-Bora started with a feeling — the one that arrives about ten minutes after you land somewhere warm, when your shoulders drop and you stop checking your phone.
It's a limited-edition gift box, designed end to end: the structure, the surface pattern, the palette, the way it opens. And like most packaging that works, the smallest decisions end up carrying the most weight.
Start with the memory, not the box
Nobody remembers packaging. They remember how it made them feel, and they remember it in colour. So we picked three and refused to negotiate: turquoise for the lagoon, a warm yellow for late afternoon sun, and soft sand neutrals so the loud two had somewhere to breathe.

The unboxing is a slow walk, not a reveal
The drawer slides out, the tray settles, and there's a beat where you're supposed to just look. We kept the mechanics quiet — a rigid box with a generous inner tray — because a gift that's fussy to open stops being a gift and becomes a puzzle.

Small object, real weight
At this size, tactility does the heavy lifting. Paper grain, wrapped board and a restrained amount of print detail give the box a soft but substantial presence. Run a thumb along an edge and you can feel where the craft sits — which is exactly where we wanted it.
A small, well-made object that lets the recipient return to the island for a moment.

Where to see the rest
The full case is online now — every spread, every detail, and the thinking in between. Take a look at the Bora-Bora packaging design project, or browse the rest of our packaging work if you have something similar in mind.
And if you want a box that feels like a place instead of a product, we're easy to find.
